Moon Lander Engine Breaks Record at Marshall Space Flight Center

On February 28, 2020 Intuitive Machines’ propulsion team successfully test fired its VR3500 moon lander engine for over 600 seconds, breaking the continuous test duration record on Marshall Space Flight Center’s Test Stand 115, set by Intuitive Machines two weeks prior with a 360 second test firing of the same engine.


VR3500 development and testing was performed on contract for Boeing’s Human Landing System (HLS) NextSTEP-2 BAA Appendix E – Architecture Studies and Technology Prototypes contract that support’s NASA’s goal of returning humans to the lunar surface in 2024.
