Intuitive Machines is looking for a full-time Aerospace or Mechanical Engineer to join its Lunar Lander Team.

The candidate will support the Lunar Lander engineering team in various engineering tasks including, but not limited to design and analysis of lander structure and components and responding to engineering disposition requests.

 

The candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with little supervision. The candidate must also have good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a highly paced team environment.

 

Travel to vendor sites may be required.


Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to*
 

  • Mechanical Design and Drawing Package Development & Management

    • Generate detailed designs of structures and components for space applications.  Produce the supporting analyses and documentation in engineering team workspace format.  Lead development and qualification activities as appropriate for the component technological maturity.

    • Define composite material solutions for structural applications.  Generate material definition to include fiber type, resin type and mix ratio.  Estimate material models to support analysis model development. 

    • Coordinate with mechanical discipline designers and drafters for the development of drawings

    • Perform quality mechanical drawing checks to confirm compliant, clear, complete, accurate, and manufacturable design criteria

    • Perform cross-discipline drawing reviews to verify interfaces consistency

    • Perform calculations to validate mechanical design and material or equipment specifications.

  • Material Specification

    • Utilize standards, specifications, and mechanical calculations to develop bills of material

    • Identify and report long-lead components and support procurement process throughout the design. This includes development of quote requisitions and preparation of purchase orders.

    • Vendor drawing inspection to verify conformance

  • Project and Time Management

    • Manage the assigned project scope of work and schedule

    • Coordinate and exchange technical information with other disciplines

    • Communicating work priorities in a timely manner

    • Participate in design reviews and vendors’ meetings

    • Prepare weekly progress reports that identify completed work and upcoming planned work in accordance with the project schedule


Education/Experience*

 

  • A Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical degree (ABET-accredited).  Bachelor of Science is acceptable if accompanied with relevant experience.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the aerospace industry.  Preference to those candidates with composite engineering experience.

  • Proficiency with FEMAP/NASTRAN required.  Experience with SolidWorks, ANSYS and Thermal Desktop are desired.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
