We are seeking a mid-level Software Systems Engineer to join us on our Ground Systems and Mission Operations (GSMO-3) contract.

Software Systems Engineer to support testing of the JWST Integrated Ground Support Systems (IGSS) and maintenance of the Software Telemetry System (STS) simulator. Will be responsible for ensuring testing requirements are adequately addressed in each IGSS release and assist with deployment of the release to systems in the field.


  • Become well-versed in how the IGSS software is integrated into the ground system and its use with each stakeholder in the field

  • Assess software deliveries from vendor for changes that need to be tested and possible fixes to existing discrepancy reports (DRs).

  • Work with senior engineer to analyze test methodologies for new content and DR fixes

  • Develop, review, revise and perform test procedures to verify release functionality and DR resolution.

  • Provide configuration management (CM) of test packages by compiling results in a test report, collecting signatures, organizing content and uploading to the project database (NGIN)

  • Attend DRB meetings and provide status on the progress for resolving DRs

  • Performs system integration and engineering

  • Integrate new software releases to upgrade existing systems

  • Analyzes and maintains subsystem interfaces to ensure subsystems are integrated and work together.

  • Maintenance of the STS includes familiarizing oneself with the product and its components and how to develop, compile and deliver a product to an integrator.  End user requested updates are possible but will be evaluated for criticality before implementation.

Required Education/Experience/Skills


BS degree in engineering or applied science.


  • At least 7 years of related experience or equivalent engineering license/certification. 

  • Minimum 7 years experience in software testing or development.


Excellent verbal and written communication

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with Raytheon Eclipse software and the JWST project a plus. 

  • Experienced with Simics, C, C++, Python, and DML (STS software applications). 

  • Experienced with GUIs (for example QT)

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.

  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.

  • Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
